Inheritance

One of the benefits of Catchpoint's Product and Folder features is that you can configure some common test settings at the Product or Folder level, and have all tests within that container take on (inherit) the container-level settings. This can save you the time of having to configure the same settings in multiple tests. The following inheritance relationships are possible:

  • Products: may propagate settings to child folders and tests. Products never inherit settings, because they are top-level containers.
  • Folders: may inherit settings from parent Folder or Product, and may propagate settings to child Folders and Tests.
  • Tests: may inherit settings from parent Folder or Product. Tests never propagate settings, because they are not containers.

Settings in the following sections may be inherited:

  • Advanced Settings
  • Requests
  • Insights
  • Targeting & Scheduling (this must always be configured at the Product level, even if Folders or Tests within the Product will use their own configurations.)
  • Alerts

When you create a new folder or test, these sections will inherit settings from the parent container by default. If you want to configure different settings for a particular folder or test, then deselect the "Inherit from parent" option at the top of the desired section. This makes the options in that section configurable for this folder or test. You can completely ignore the settings from the parent container or choose "Copy Parent" to duplicate its configuration with the option to add to or change any of the copied settings.
