Endpoints

Prev Next

Endpoints are end-user desktop devices (Windows or macOS) which have the Catchpoint User Experience components installed for performance monitoring. Endpoint devices get registered in your portal automatically the first time they connect to your Portal via the Endpoint Desktop App. Each new Endpoint will automatically claim a license (if available) and have its status set to Active. If there are already as many active Endpoints as your license allows, then additional Endpoints will automatically be set to Inactive, and no data will be collected from them. You must deactivate an existing Endpoint in order to release its license for activation on another Endpoint.

To view the list of existing Endpoints in your portal, click on the Control Center icon in the main menu, then select Endpoint > Endpoints. The following pieces of information are listed for each Endpoint:

  • Name - this is based on the hostname of the device, and is set automatically.
  • ID - the numeric unique identifier automatically assigned to the endpoint device.
  • Status
    • Active: the device is currently being monitored and will report performance metrics per your configuration settings.
    • Inactive: the device is not currently being monitored. No performance metrics will be collected for this device.
  • Alias - an optional alternative name for the device.
  • Labels - optional label(s) which can be used to group Endpoints for alerting a data analysis. For example, you could have a "Department" label and assign different Endpoints to their specific departments, such as "Department:IT" and "Department:Sales"
  • Last Updated - the date and time that this endpoint device last connected and communicated to Catchpoint's monitoring servers.

Activating/Deactivating Endpoints

Select the checkbox next to each desired Endpoint, then click Activate or Deactivate to switch them all to that status. Deactivating an Endpoint suspends monitoring on that device, and frees up the license for use on another device.
