Composite Alerts

Prev Next

Composite Alerts enable you to receive a single alert message based on triggering conditions in multiple tests, providing more informative notifications with reduced noise. For example, you might not want to be informed when a single webpage on your website is unavailable, but if several pages are all unavailable at once, you would want to receive an alert. A composite alert could be configured to trigger only when multiple tests monitoring different webpages encounter test failures or downtime.

Prerequisites

Composite alerts depend on the triggering of conventional Test Failure or Downtime alerts in multiple tests. For example, if you configure your Composite alert to be triggered by Downtime in three specific tests, then whenever all three of those test's Downtime alerts are simultaneously in a triggered state, your composite alert will be triggered and generate a message.

Therefore, prior to configuring a composite alert, you must make sure the tests you wish to alert on are each configured to alert on Test Failure or Downtime. See the Alerts documentation to make sure your tests are properly configured.

Creating a Composite Alert

  1. Navigate to Control Center > Library > Composite Alerts
  2. Click New Composite Alert
  3. Input a Name and optionally a Description for this composite alert
  4. In the Tests field, select two or more tests that will be used to trigger this alert. If you select a Product or Folder, this will automatically select all descendant tests.
  5. In the Condition section, input either the quantity or the percentage of selected tests that must be in a triggering condition in order for the composite alert to be triggered. (For example, you could select six tests to monitor, and generate a composite alert whenever any three of those tests are in an alert state be inputting either a quantity of 3 or 50%)
  6. Select an Alert Type
    • Test Failure (if selected, each selected test must be configured to alert on Test Failure.)
    • Downtime (if selected, each selected test must be configured to alert on Downtime.)
  7. Complete your Notification Preferences
    1. Set a Critical Alerts reminder frequency. This determines how often you email reminders will be sent while a critical alert condition is ongoing.
    2. Input one or more Recipients to receive alert emails for this composite alert.
    3. Specify the Subject of the alert email. You can use Macros to include variable data in the subject.
    4. If desired, add Instructions, which will be appended to the alert email. You can input Custom instructions or use a Template.
    5. If desired, select an API Endpoint to send the alert to. Endpoints are pre-configured Alert Webhooks.
