CentOS 7 End of Life and Support

Prev Next

Red Hat has declared that CentOS 7 will be End-of-Life on June 30, 2024, and will no longer receive updates and support. Catchpoint will similarly end its support for the CentOS 7 operating system on May 1st, 2024, ceasing support for Enterprise Nodes that run the OS.

After this date, Catchpoint will not troubleshoot, resolve bugs, or release new features for Enterprise Nodes running CentOS 7.

Catchpoint provides support for several operating systems, which are listed here. We recommend installing the Endpoint Agent on top of a fresh install of one of the supported operating systems. However, if this is not possible, we can provide a script that will automatically reimage the node on Oracle 8, a supported operating system.

This script is based on the Alma Linux Elevate framework; it runs on standard configurations but may fail if it encounters something running on the node that it doesn’t anticipate. The script is a helper utility and is not part of the Catchpoint’s offering; we’re providing this script as a good partner, though you should take every precaution before running it to ensure it doesn’t impact your nodes.

Before running this script, Catchpoint requires that:

  • Customers run the bootctl status command on Enterprise Nodes to learn if Secure Boot is enabled.
    • If users find it’s enabled, they must disable it during a machine restart in the BIOS while physically connected to the node before migrating the Operating System.
    • The upgrade script will exit early if Secure Boot is enabled on the node.
  • Nodes run the latest version of the Catchpoint agent to execute this script.
    • Administrators must run update commands on each node to ensure the latest agent version is installed before attempting to reimaging the node.
    • See this article for information about running the update command.
  • Customers consider a backup of the node prior to running this script.

Catchpoint also supports deploying its agents using Containers - read more here.

We encourage customers to reach out to their Customer Success Manager if you prefer to remotely access your nodes and run the upgrade script; our team will supply the script if you prefer this route.

If you don’t have remote access or need assistance with the upgrade script, please open a support ticket with the topic ‘Enterprise Node CentOS 7 Migration Assistance’ and a member of the team will assist.
