RUM Mobile Preview

We are excited to announce a new capability for Real User Monitoring (RUM) that will empower you to monitor mobile applications with ease. This feature will soon be available in a free limited preview, providing native mobile app monitoring without any initial cost.

New UX for Internet Stack Map

This release delivers a major update to Catchpoint’s Internet Stack Map, featuring improvements in design, functionality, and overall usability. It includes changes throughout the module, making it easier to create and view stack maps, identify problems affecting your services, and quickly find the root cause.

As part of the redesign, Stack Maps are now displayed in a horizontal orientation, so you may need to rearrange elements within your existing Stack Maps to accommodate this change.

Tracing

Complementary Synthetic Tracing

We are excited to introduce a new feature that allows free collection of tracing data for synthetic tests. This offer is available for a limited time only.

New: Benchmarks

We are excited to introduce Benchmarks, a powerful new feature that allows customers using Real User Monitoring (RUM) to benchmark Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) on their websites, providing valuable insights into CDN performance. Enabling the feature is a simple switch in the portal, and the RUM JS code will automatically start benchmarking and analyzing the data in Explorer.

Benchmarks offer a comprehensive view of CDN performance across browser type, connection type, and geographic location, helping you identify performance bottlenecks and execute a multi-CDN strategy. The feature is currently available in Preview and is free for all customers with RUM apps.

The data collected by the service is aggregated across customers and available for purchase by other customers. This paid service excludes data that can identify sites or pages and, like RUM, contains no user PII. For more information, read our privacy document.

Playwright

Script Converter

The new Script Converter functionality lets you convert Selenium scripts to Playwright scripts via both the Catchpoint Portal and REST API. This enhancement simplifies the process of migrating from legacy Selenium-based tests, which are being retired by the end of the year.

Within the portal, you can select an eligible Transaction Test and use the Convert option to generate a Playwright test and script.

You can also upload a Selenium script to the REST API and convert it to Playwright using the following API endpoint: Post /v{3.4}/tests/scriptconvert

Please note that some Selenium verbs are not supported by the script converter. Learn more.

Terraform Enhancements

Terraform is a popular Infrastructure-as-Code tool that can be used to quickly provision resources. When using the newest Catchpoint Terraform provider (1.5.0), you can now do the following:

  • Create and update Products and Folders
  • Configure “Inherit and Add” for alerts
  • Configure DNS Answer alerts for DNS tests
  • Configure custom headers

We expect to complete the Terraform Provider update during the week of February 10.

Enterprise Node Status

Enterprise Nodes now report their connection status, indicating whether instances are online or offline. This makes it easier to monitor node health, address run rate issues and identify when a new node comes online.

Sonar - Network Incident Correlations

Network incidents detected by Sonar will now be correlated with network issues detected by your traceroute tests, helping you determine whether a network issue detected by one of your tests is isolated to your network, or symptomatic of a wider network incident affecting a broad portion of internet traffic.

New Smartboard and Records Source Selector

The updated source selector blade features a more intuitive layout and improved navigation. These enhancements make it simpler to choose what you want to display in Smartboard and Records.

REST API Key Expiration Date

The latest update introduces improvements in token expiration management for REST API (v2/v3) tokens. Now, token expiration will be displayed in the Catchpoint Portal, and a new property in the /UserIdentity API endpoint will provide token expiration times. Additionally, the contact for the API Consumer will receive email notifications 30 and 15 days before token expiration.

Additional Features

  • Improved Internet Sonar UX for reporting of ongoing and sequential incidents in the Overview Dashboard.
  • Clicking Internet Sonar ISP Incidents in map view now opens the network visualization.
  • Create and share interactive Tracing Service Smartboard public reports, with customized timeframe, filtering, Spotlight, and Events.
  • More efficient loading of BGP path changes, reducing load time when viewing longer timeframes.
  • Purge summary data now available in Explorer, allowing users to view the results of for any data that was selected to be purged.
  • Traceroute hop-by-hop graph visualization now allows grouping of hops without collapsing the entire path.
  • Playwright- and Puppeteer-based monitors now apply User Agent string configured for the Test URL to all requests, and User Agent Override at child host is deprecated.*
  • DNS Experience tool now uses DIG (domain information groper) to resolve queries, providing more accurate results for better analysis.*

*Note: These changes are dependent on Agent release.

Bug Fixes

  • Endpoint alerts not always showing correct data in “applied to” column
  • Endpoint instant test results not always available for completed tests
  • Sonar incident not matching between correlation banner and affected tests tab

Catchpoint Agent Release

Some of the features in the release (where noted) require the latest version of the Catchpoint Agent to be running on the selected Node. The Catchpoint Agent rollout involves two dimensions:

  • Public Nodes managed by Catchpoint: Agent rollout on public nodes takes place in stages following each release. Agent release announcements are posted here: https://nodestatus.catchpoint.com.
  • Private Enterprise Nodes managed by customers: Customers can upgrade Enterprise Nodes any time at their convenience. We advise customers to upgrade Enterprise nodes promptly after each release to benefit from the new feature functionality.
-- Instructions for upgrading Enterprise nodes can be found in the help documentation.
