# Self versus Third Party Zone Measurement

Self (primary) and third-party [zones](https://docs.catchpoint.com/docs/Zones-Guide) automatic collection is available in test properties, under Advanced Test Settings.

If you want to view the data related to these Zones within the Zone Charting section, you must enable **Zone Data Collection**.

*Note that this may incur additional costs, please consult with your [Customer Success Manager](https://docs.catchpoint.com/docs/customer-success-managers) if unsure*

The default (free) **Self vs Third Party** option will allow you to just view the following metrics under the default test-level charting:

- **% Self Bottleneck**
- **% Third Party Bottleneck**
- **Self Downloaded Bytes**
-

Self Zones are defined as requests under the primary domain of an HTTP test, and can be customized with the three methods listed below.

1. Test URL
2. Wildcard
3. Regular Expression

Third-Party Zones are defined as all other requests that are not in the Self Zone. This zone cannot be configured.

Once tests run with the setting enabled, you can chart self and third-party zones as separate zone metrics. Below is a performance chart of a new Zone metric, `% Third Party Bottleneck`. This can be found in the [webpage metrics](https://docs.catchpoint.com/docs/legacy-performance-chart-metrics) ![](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/206984626-1234.png)

This feature will help in identifying whether a change in something like **Webpage Response** is because of a 3rd party content or your own content.

In **Records**, you can identify requests by [Self] and [Third Party] if the setting is enabled for the test. ![Zones_2.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/4402553126413-Zones_2.png)

**Note**: Only by enabling the **Zone Data** option can you fully utilize the “[Zone Charting](https://docs.catchpoint.com/docs/legacy-zone-charts)” options like plotting # items, # hosts, or # Zone Failures for individual zones.

*Enabling Zone Data option will cost additional points*

To view Zones in a chart,

1. Enable **Zone Data**" in the **Explorer** window.
2. Filter for the **Zones** for which you want to analyze the data.
3. Select **Zones** in the first column by breakdown to compare the zones.

When the **Zone Data** option is enabled, you can also plot for these additional metrics for each individual Zone: #Items, #Hosts, #Zone Failures, etc.

For Example: ![zones_3.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/4402559988621-zones_3.png)

You can also create “[Custom Zones](https://docs.catchpoint.com/docs/legacy-zones-guide)” and take advantage of this feature.
