# Risks of using distribution lists/shared logins

Catchpoint recommends that each portal account be dedicated to an individual person via their unique email. The use of shared or "distribution-list" email addresses is strongly discouraged due to following factors:

- **Portal Activity Tracking**: Changes in the portal are logged in the change log. Using a shared login makes it difficult to track who made any given change in the portal. This can also pose difficulties during security audits.
- **Security**: In the case of a credentials security breach, the use of shared logins would make it more difficult to identify the source of the breach (the individual who was compromised). Having unique logins could help reduce the time to root out the issue.
- **Access Management**: If an individual with access to shared credentials leaves your organization, you would need to change the password and recirculate it to everyone else. Also, anyone with access to the shared account might change its password, creating confusion for others.
- **Product Support:** If any individual reaches out to Catchpoint via chat or via ticket using the shared login, our Support Team won't have a good way to track who they are communicating with, which can lead to confusion and extended time to resolve support matters.
