The DNS test provides you the ability to define alerts based on the content returned by the test.

## DNS Alert Types:

### DNS General

General alert allows alerting on any information that is/is not returned in any section of the DNS test record: Answer, Authority, or Additional Records. ![DNS Ad 1.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/DNS%20Ad%201.png)

### DNS Answer

Answer alert allows alerting on any information that is/is not returned in the Answer section. ![DNS Ad 2.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/DNS%20Ad%202.png)

### DNS Additional Records

**Level:** ![DNS Ad 5.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/DNS%20Ad%205.png)

It allows user to define the Alert trigger to match with the respective DNS Resolution level.

**Any:** It will check for the Alert Trigger at any of the Resolution levels.

**Index:** It will check for the Alert Trigger at the level you specify.

**IP Address:** It will check for the Alert Trigger from the results of the IP that is queried. ![DNS Ad 6.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/DNS%20Ad%206.png)

**Last:** It will check for the Alert Trigger at the last level of the DNS resolution

**Resolved Name:** It allows you to specify the name of the Record in the DNS Resolution returned under the Answer, Authority, or Additional Records.

(The maximum character length is 255 characters)

**Record Type:** It defines the record type of the Resolved Name. ![DNS Ad 7.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/DNS%20Ad%207.png)

### Match:

**Any Record:** Will match the Alert trigger with information of any one value of the Resolved Name Records.

**All Records:** Will match the Alert trigger with information of all values of Resolved Name Records.

**Any IP ASN:** Will match the Alert trigger with information of the corresponding ASN values for the Resolved Name Records. (Available for DNS General, Answer and Additional Records). ![DNS Ad 8.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/DNS%20Ad%208.png)

The match string has a character limit of 255 characters. Use the pipe symbol "|" with no spaces to separate multiple IP addresses in the match string, as in the followingn example: **`45.54.42.1|45.54.42.65|45.54.42.129`**

**TTL:** This allows us to specify whether a record or name needs to have a specific TTL. Is an integer input.

### Enforce Test Failure:
