# Points Allocation

Use Points Allocation to distribute contract points across divisions and products, monitor usage, configure notifications, and optionally enforce limits when allocated points are exhausted.

The Points Allocation page is available to users with the **Manage Allocations** permission.

## Understand the Points Allocation Page

The top of the page displays contract usage information, including:

- Remaining Contract Points
- Total Used Points
- Projected Usage for Billing Cycle
- Average Daily Usage

A status message below the summary tiles indicates whether current usage is tracking within the available contract budget.

The allocation table displays configured divisions and products along with their allocation percentage, usage status, usage progress, usage totals, and enforcement settings.

## Allocate Points

Allocations are configured as absolute values or percentages and can be assigned to divisions and products.

### Add an Allocation

To add an allocation:

1. Click **Edit**.
2. Locate the division or product in the **Unallocated Divisions & Client Products** section.
3. Click **Add**.
4. Enter an allocation amount or percentage.
5. Click **Save**.

### Allocation Warning

If the combined allocation exceeds the contract amount, a warning message is displayed indicating that allocations exceed the available budget.

Adjust the allocation until the total allocation is within the available budget. ![allocation_warning.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/allocation_warning.png)

## Monitor Usage

The allocation table provides visibility into how allocated points are being consumed.

### Status

The Status column indicates the health of each allocation.

- Critical (At the allocation budget with enforcement enabled)

- At Risk (Above 100% allocation)

- On Track (At a rate that will be above 90% of the allocated budget)

![on_track.png](https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/on_track.png)

- Surplus (At a rate that will have a projected usage below 90% of the allocated budget)

### Usage Progress

The Usage Progress column displays the percentage of allocated points consumed.

Progress bars provide a visual indication of allocation health:

- Red: Critical
- Orange: At Risk
- Blue: On Track or Surplus

### Total Usage

The Total Usage column displays cumulative point consumption for the allocation.

### Understanding Point Allocations

Allocations are configured as absolute values or percentages and are used to distribute available contract points across divisions and products. The Points Allocation page automatically calculates usage and displays:

- Remaining Contract Points
- Total Used Points
- Projected Usage for Billing Cycle
- Avg Daily Usage

The Status and Usage Progress columns help you identify allocations that are approaching or exceeding their allocated budget.

### Enforce Allocation Limits

Use the **Enforce Limit** toggle to prevent changes that would cause an allocated product, folder, or test to exceed its allocation. Enforcement does not stop active tests from running. It applies only when users create or edit allocated products, folders, and tests. To enable enforcement:

1. Click **Edit**.
2. Enable the **Enforce Limit** toggle for the division or product.

When enforcement is enabled, Catchpoint checks the Point Estimator when a user creates or edits an allocated product, folder, or test.

If the Point Estimator indicates that there is no room in the allocation, the user cannot save the change unless they reduce usage to an allowable level.

When editing products and folders, Catchpoint accounts for tests that inherit targeting settings from those products or folders.

**Note:**

The allowance is an approximation based on recent data and might not reflect the impact of immediate preceding actions, such as editing several tests or drastically reducing usage. Go to the Points Allocation page for real-time tracking of usage rates, or subscribe to the Allocation Warning Report for a daily usage warning.

If immediate testing changes are required, disable enforcement to allow changes.

### Configure Alert Settings

Use Alert Settings to receive notifications when allocation usage requires attention.

To configure alerts:

1. Click **Alert Settings**.
2. Enter one or more recipients.
3. Save your changes.

When allocation usage reaches a warning condition, Catchpoint sends an email notification to the configured recipients.

### Permissions

Access to the Points Allocation page is controlled by the Manage Allocations permission.

Division Administrators can manage allocations within their assigned division.

Users without the required permissions cannot modify allocation settings.
