# Adding Instances and Nodes

An instance is an individual machine (physical or virtual) running the Catchpoint node software. In order to create an Enterprise Node, you must first create one or more Instances by installing the Catchpoint node, and then registering the new Instance(s) in the Catchpoint Portal.

This article assumes you have already completed the Catchpoint node installation, and are just adding the instances to your Portal.

Follow these steps to add a new Instance and associate it with a new or existing Node:

1. Log into the Catchpoint Portal and navigate to the Nodes Module <img src="https://cdn.document360.io/cb4af8f9-6751-4fd2-b39c-07aae832badb/Images/Documentation/4405699782555-Nodes_Button_Collapsed.png" style="height: 48px; vertical-align: middle;"/> then select "Instances."
2. Select **Add Instance** at the upper left corner of the Instances List.
3. Complete the Instance Properties fields:
    1. **Hostname** - input the hostname of the machine
    2. **Machine ID** - input the machine's Unique ID (printed by command when you run *catchpoint info*)
    3. **OS** - select the operating system that the instance is running
4. Complete the **Node Settings** fields
    1. **Network Type** - select the type of Node that this instance will be a part of - ***Enterprise or Enterprise (pt)***
    2. **Node** - select whether this instance will be part of a New or Existing node
    3. **Node** - if this instance will be part of an existing node, input the name of the Node or click the **List** button to search for and select the desired node.
    4. If this instance will be part of a new node, complete these additional **Node Settings** fields
        1. **OS Type** - select whether this will be a Windows- or Linux-based Node
        2. **IPv6** - enable if the node will use IPv6
        3. **Geography City** - input/select the city where the node is located
        4. **ISP** - input/select the internet service provider the node will connect to
        5. **Node Name** - input a unique name for the node
        6. **Package** - select a package, which determines the set of tests the node can run
        7. **Model** - select a Node model, which determines the number of tests that may be run on each Instance simultaneously.
5. Notice the **Licenses** section within the **Add Instance** blade. This lists all of the licenses in your account, and indicates how many are used and how many are available. Contact Catchpoint if you need additional licenses.
6. Select **Save** to finish adding the new Instance
