Catchpoint's Employee App Smartboard help you quickly identify the cause of performance issues related to your Employee Apps. When you receive an alert or see concerning test results in your Endpoint Dashboards, a good first troubleshooting step is to view the corresponding Smartboard, locate the issue in the timeline, and then use the filters and visualization tools to see if you can narrow down the potential causes of the issue.
Let's look closer at each of the sections in the Employee App Smartboard.
Source
This is the specific Employee App whose data is being rendered in the Smartboard. You can change the source by clicking on the Source button in the upper left, then selecting the desired data source. When you make a selection, the Smartboard refreshes all sections with data from the new source.

Timeline
The Employee App Smartboard begins with an interactive timeline at the top of the page. This timeline plots a line graph representing Experience Score (%). The timeline helps you spot trends in Employee App performance.

Time Window Selection
All graphs and tables displayed in the Employee App Smartboard are generated using data from within your selected time window (last 24 hours by default.) You can select a different time window by clicking the field at the top left and selecting the desired timeframe, or by clicking and dragging the vertical blue bars in the Timeline to the desired starting and ending times. When you make a new selection, all of the other sections refresh with data from the new time window.

Filters
You can access filters by clicking the blue Filters button below the timeline.

This opens the Filters blade. You can apply multiple filters, and for each one you can choose whether to include or exclude the selected items. You can see all of the filters you have set up by clicking "Selected."

Smartboard Sections
The rest of the Employee App Smartboard is divided into four sections which you can select by clicking the desired option immediately below the timeline.

Summary Section
Score Cards
This is set of tiles displaying key performance metrics averaged across the selected time window. Each tile also displays the percentage difference between this time period and the overall average for that metric. There are three Score Cards displayed in the Summary Section:
- Experience Score (%) - A composite of the Endpoint, Network, and Application scores.
- Network Score (%) - Shows the impact the network is having on user experience. It is calculated using the RTT and Packet Loss metrics from Ping and Traceroute tests.
- Application Score (%) - Shows the impact one or more applications are having on user experience. It is calculated using Document Complete and Visually Complete metrics from RUM data, Downtime from both RUM and test, Wait Time from Object tests, and the destination hop RTT and Packet Loss for Traceroute tests.
Trends Chart
Summarizes Endpoint metrics into a line graph with the option to select which metric to plot.
Endpoint Section
Endpoint Key Metrics
A row of tiles displaying the following:
- Endpoints: The number of Endpoints for which data was collected during the selected timeframe.
- Locations: The number of Locations for which data was collected during the selected timeframe.
- Page Views: The number of unique Employee App page views that occurred during the selected timeframe.
- Errors: The number of errors generated during the selected timeframe.
Endpoints Per Location Table
A list of specific Endpoints for which data was collected, with option to sort by Name, Page Views, Errors, % Downtime, and Location.
Network Section
Network Key Metrics
A row of tiles displaying the following:
- Network Score (%): Composite metric, calculated using the RTT and Packet Loss metrics from Ping and Traceroute tests.
- Locations: The number of Locations for which data was collected during the selected timeframe.
- Endpoints: The number of unique Endpoints for which data was collected during the selected timeframe.
- Test Runs: The number of Endpoint Test runs executed during the selected timeframe.
- Failures: The number of Endpoint Test runs that failed during the selected timeframe.
- Packet Loss (%): The percentage of packets lost during the selected timeframe.
- Latency (ms): Average latency in milliseconds during the selected timeframe.
Endpoints Table
A sortable list of Endpoints for which data was collected during the selected timeframe.
Location Table
A sortable list of Locations for which data was collected during the selected timeframe.
Network View
This section helps visualize the network paths taken to connect to Employee Apps. This section has a timeline similar to the main timeline at the top of the Smartboard, but this one displays each endpoint session/pageview as a distinct dot. By selecting a specific timeframe, you can narrow down which pageviews are used in the visualizations.
Network Path Visualization
Displays a visualization of the path from each Endpoint to the Employee App, with intermediate Network Devices indicated.
Hop by Hop Visualization
Displays lines representing the paths from each Endpoint to the Employee App, with nodes along the line representing each intermediate network hop. These nodes are color-coded based on Packet-Loss percentage. You can hover over each node to see performance statistics for that hop.
Employee App Section
Employee App Key Metrics
A row of tiles displaying the following:
- App Score (%): Composite metric, calculated using Document Complete and Visually Complete metrics from RUM data, Downtime from both RUM and tests, Wait Time from Object tests, and the destination hop RTT and Packet Loss for Traceroute tests.
- Doc Complete (ms): The average amount of time it took to completely load the destination page.
- Errors: The number of errors generated during the selected timeframe.
- % Downtime: The percentage of connection attempts that failed due to the Employee App being unavailable.
Trending Chart
A timeline with the option to chart a variety of App-related metrics and breakdowns.
Data Table
This table gives you the option to list Endpoints, URLs, or Locations, and provides multiple options for sorting/filtering each list.
