Welcome to Moonbeam! This release shines a light on performance issues hiding in the shadows. With AI RCA, monitoring recommendations, session replay, and more, Moonbeam delivers new clarity and insight to your monitoring strategy, so you’re never in the dark.

Internet Stack Map

Catchpoint’s Internet Stack Map offers a live, interactive view of the services your applications depend on across the internet, enabling rapid diagnosis of performance issues and reducing MTTI/MTTR. We are excited to announce two major new capabilities now available to everyone.

AI Root Cause Analysis

This release introduces AI Insights in your Stack Maps. This new feature automatically detects outages in your primary service, correlates data from dependent services (and from Internet Sonar), and identifies the most likely root cause of an issue. The results are presented in plain language, enabling you to quickly address service issues and reduce downtime.

Stack Map Recommendations

Stack Map now provides custom monitoring recommendations for your applications based on Catchpoint and industry best practices. This helps you create a more complete monitoring strategy for your digital services and simplifies Stack Map setup.

This feature also examines your existing testing strategy and recommends specific tests you may be missing. If you like, you can have those tests automatically created for you. It will show you how many points will be used and give you a chance to review, edit, or cancel before any changes are made.

Highlights:

  • Recommendations Blade: Provides tailored testing and monitoring suggestions for your services and the ability to add Sonar data to your services.
  • Test Recommendations: A curated list of recommended tests and predefined alerts for each service
  • User Experience Updates: Enjoy a streamlined edit page that makes setting up your Stack Map and monitoring fast and effortless.

Stack Map is free, and with Recommendations, it’s easier to set up than ever!

RUM Web - Session Replay

Session Replay provides video playback of end-user journeys and interactions on your website. By capturing clicks, scrolls, page navigations, and form interactions, it lets you effectively watch over your user’s shoulder to see exactly how they engage with your site.

This capability helps you understand your users' perspective so you can diagnose issues quickly and improve overall user experience and conversions. By watching real interactions, you can identify friction points, spot errors, and get invaluable context for troubleshooting tricky issues. With privacy-first data masking, sensitive information remains secure while giving you full visibility into user behavior.

To start using Session Replay, please reach out to your account manager to have it enabled.

First in Industry: Cookieless RUM

We're proud to announce a breakthrough in real user monitoring: Catchpoint RUM is the first solution in the industry that enables you to continue collecting performance data while still honoring users’ cookie preference. This gives you both performance visibility and regulatory compliance.

Until now, other RUM products forced you to make a tough choice: either comply with privacy laws by turning off RUM entirely when consent is denied, leaving you blind to critical performance issues, or risk non-compliance by continuing to track with cookies or local storage.

Catchpoint’s Cookieless RUM removes that trade-off. When a user opts out of analytics cookies, we still collect performance data, with the following limitations:

  • Pageviews per visit are always 1 – Every page load is its own “visit.“
  • Records and waterfalls show 1 pageview per session – You will still see detailed performance data, but without stitching sessions across pages.
  • When a user opts in, Catchpoint RUM behaves exactly as before, with full session and user tracking.

To learn more, here is the help documentation for configuring consent management in RUM.

Enterprise Node Alerts

Now you can easily monitor the health and performance of your Enterprise Nodes with real-time alerts. Instantly receive email notification when there is a significant change in Run Rate, Node State (online/offline), Node Utilization, or utilization of critical resources like CPU, disk, and memory. These alerts help you quickly detect issues, reduce downtime, and keep your enterprise infrastructure running at peak performance.

As part of this update, we have increased the frequency at which our system collects Node utilization data from every 15 minutes to every 5 minutes. As a result, you may see a change in the metrics when viewing the Node Performance and Hardware Usage sections in the portal. This is to be expected and does not indicate a problem with your nodes.

Tracing

First in Industry: Trace Comparison

When viewing the Tracing Service Smartboard, you can now select up to four traces from the transaction table and compare them side-by-side. This makes it much easier to see how system performance varies across traces so that you can quickly identify and troubleshoot any discrepancies.

Custom Dashboard – Support for Span Details

This update introduces span-level visibility in the Tracing Custom Dashboard. This enables you to visualize distributed tracing data with enhanced granularity, improving observability and diagnostics across services.

When configuring a dashboard, you can now add widgets with spans as the data-source to view span metrics in table, tile, timeseries, and bar chart visualizations.

Coming Soon:

  • Heartbeat Test – This new test type will allow SRE and DevOps users perform HTTP and API script tests as frequently as every five seconds.
  • Agentic AI – Catchpoint will continue rolling out AI-based features, including a new Incident Manager to help you respond to crises and troubleshoot problems significantly faster.
  • Node-to-Node Test – Support for up to 100x100 node mesh – scale up your node-to-node testing with a new UI and expanded capacity.
  • Infrastructure Monitoring – Gain visibility into the performance trends, resource usage, and system health of your infrastructure.

REST API Updates

New API Endpoints for Composite Alerts

The following REST API endpoint updates have been made:

  • Create composite alerts
  • Delete composite alerts
  • Query composite alerts
  • Update composite alerts

REST API Versioning Policy

We support the current stable version of our REST API and the version just before it for twelve months after a new version becomes stable. As of July 11, 2024, REST API v3 is the current stable version. REST API v4 is available in preview and may include breaking changes as it evolves.

To stay supported and take advantage of the latest improvements, we recommend keeping your integration up to date with the latest stable version.

Note: Features marked with an asterisk are dependent on Agent release

Catchpoint Agent Release

Some of the features in the release (where noted) require the latest version of the Catchpoint Agent to be running on the selected Node. The Catchpoint Agent rollout involves two dimensions:

  • Public Nodes managed by Catchpoint: Agent rollout on public nodes takes place in stages following each release. Agent release announcements are posted here: https://nodestatus.catchpoint.com.
  • Private Enterprise Nodes managed by customers: Customers can upgrade Enterprise Nodes any time at their convenience. We advise customers to upgrade Enterprise nodes promptly after each release to benefit from the new feature functionality.
---- Instructions for upgrading Enterprise nodes can be found in the help documentation.
