Dashboard Improvements

Overview Dashboards Moved to Tabs

The default Overview Dashboards included with Catchpoint are now combined in a single screen, with separate tabs for each individual overview: Summary, Tests, BGP, and Endpoint. This will make it easier to navigate to the desired overview in just one click.

BGP Dashboard Date and Time Picker

The date and time picker has been improved throughout the BGP Overview dashboard, enabling you to troubleshoot faster when attempting to identify issues such as hijacks. With out-of-the-box presets and support for custom date and time selection, the time frame selection is simpler to use. The new date and time picker can be found on the BGP Overview dashboard and any of its blades.

BGP Origins Table Update

We recently added the capability to view prefixes whose origin is unknown, i.e. all those prefixes that were unreachable by at least one peer of Catchpoint, RIS, or Route Views in the selected time window. Now this view will always be visible when the BGP Overview dashboard loads, making it quicker and easier to identify prefixes that had unknown origins. Also, the options to view by Neighbor and Prefixes are available as tabs.

Smartboard Enhancements

New Experience Score Blade

Experience Score is based on Apdex, an industry-standard performance index, which helps provide a standard measure of a user’s experience of a service. The Test Smartboard displays an Experience Score gauge so that you have a sense of how the test is performing from a user’s perspective.

With this release, you can now click on the gauge to open the new Experience Score Blade for more detailed information. The blade includes a bar chart with a numeric breakdown of test runs by experience quality (Satisfied, Tolerating, or Frustrated), as well as a description section which includes a brief but detailed explanation of how Experience Score is calculated.

Improved IP Network Visualization

We have continued to improve the hop-by-hop visualization in the Smartboard IP Network graph. Any unknown hops in the visualization are grouped together, and the number of unknown hops is indicated, providing a cleaner view of the overall network path. You can also view a new hover card to find relevant information about the unknown hops. We have also enhanced the hovercards for the links between hops so that they provide more relevant information, including RTT and the number of runs.

Publicly Share WebPageTest Smartboard

The WebPageTest Smartboard now supports public sharing, enabling you to distribute test results to team members and colleagues  who don’t have access to Catchpoint.

  • Share lighthouse results
  • Share performance data on key web metrics such as Core Web Vitals

WebPageTest Smartboard Spotlight Widget

The new Spotlight widget highlights seven key metrics, showing your WPT tests’ performance trends over time.  These metrics include:

  • First Contentful Paint
  • Largest Contentful Paint
  • Cumulative Layout Shift
  • Largest Contentful Paint
  • Cumulative Layout Shift
  • Start Render
  • Visually Complete
  • Speed Index
  • Total Blocking Time

The metrics are highlighted based on triggers set up on the Test Properties page.  You can find the Spotlight widget on the Overview tab to the right of the Alerts section.

Instant Test Enhancements

Support for Credentials Library

Catchpoint's Control Center Library enables you to securely store and manage authentication credentials for use in your tests. In this release we have extended this capability to Instant Tests. You can now select stored authentication Certificates as well as Usernames and Passwords when configuring Instant Tests, increasing the utility and value of both features.

Support for more Advanced Settings

We have integrated more of the Advanced Settings options with Instant Tests. You can now select the "30x Redirects Do Not Follow" setting in the API test type, and we have also added the "HTTP/2.0" setting to the Web Object and API test types.

Usability Improvements

For greater clarity, the list of previously created Instant Tests will now be called "Instant Test History." We are also now making it more obvious that instant tests have a 20-node limit.

Traceroute Records Page Enhancements

The Records page provides a granular view of each test run with a complete breakdown of all the captured data. For the Traceroute monitor, this includes detail about each hop along the path to the destination.

New Hop-by-Hop Visualization

As in the Smartboard Enhancements section above, the Traceroute Records page also includes the new hop-by-hop visualization. This visualization has newly designed hovercards and a hop slider to adjust the number of hops displayed as needed. You can visualize your Traceroute data per IP address, city, or country.

Traceroute Data Table Update

The Traceroute table now shows even more information, including Path Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) discovery and MPLS labels for the path.

Node Detail Page Enhancements

The Node detail page shows you detailed performance history for a node, including the number of Test Runs targeting it. When viewing the graphs for All Test Runs (#) and Unique Test Runs (#) in this page, you will now see a hovercard displaying the exact count for each Test Type.

EarthView Enhancements

We introduced the new EarthView Dashboard in our previous release and have received a lot of great feedback. In Coda, we have made the following enhancements to it:

  • You can now zoom in, zoom out, and revert to the original size without having to use your browser's zoom control.
  • The legend now shows the range of metric values each pin size indicates, providing a clearer understanding of performance when viewing the globe.
  • The default timeframe has been set to the last five minutes, providing you the very latest metric information.
  • The default timeframe option now includes a 15 minute interval.

RUM Sampling Setting per Client/Division

The RUM Sampling setting controls what percentage of end-user sessions are captured, enabling you to manage the amount of data your RUM Apps capture relative to your account limits. Previously, this rate had to be set/changed per-app.

Now, you can configure a single RUM Sampling rate for all Apps within a specific client or division. This setting can be found under Settings > Info.

Note that enabling this setting will not change the rate on previously configured RUM Apps, but all new RUM Apps within that Client or Division will automatically have the new configured default rate applied.

REST API v2 (Limited Preview)

We have been continually adding capabilities to our REST API v2 over the past several releases, and it now supports test, folder, product, instance, node, node group and endpoint device management. You can also use it to generate and capture results from instant tests, configure favorite charts, waterfalls, endpoint devices, and access raw and aggregated test data, as well as recent alerts.

We have added a few more capabilities to REST API v2 in Coda, including the following:

Retrieve the external IPs for Catchpoint servers for whitelisting purposes
Command and Control
Retrieve details about existing Divisions
Create and configure SLA purge items to meet your SLA data classification needs
To request access to the limited preview REST API v2, please reach out to your CSM or fill out this form. Please find detailed information on the new REST API change summary here.

Test/App Access Restrictions via SSO

When using an IDP for single-sign-on to your Catchpoint Portal, you can now pass assertions to limit access to Products, Tests and RUM apps for a specified group of users, improving security and simplifying user management. We have also migrated the SSO Identity Provider configuration to the Symphony UI for an improved experience.

New Documentation Portal

We are pleased to introduce our brand new documentation portal (docs.catchpoint.com). Its improved UI includes a navigation tree, making it much easier to browse the knowledge base and find what you need. There is also a handy table of contents within each article. The Documentation links and search fields in the Catchpoint Portal now point to this new portal.
